How to Check if a Doctor Has a Lawsuit Pending Against Him
District courts report successful malpractice lawsuits against a doctor to the medical board in the state in which the doctor practices medicine. However, if you want to check if a doctor has a lawsuit pending against him, you must contact the court directly. Although you can search through some county's court records online, not all courts offer this option. For this reason, you should call or visit the courthouse in person to get up-to-date information about a pending lawsuit against a doctor.

1
Look on the district court website for the county in which the doctor conducts his practice to find the contact information for the court clerk and the court address.
-
2
Call the clerk or go to the court house. Give the court clerk the name of the doctor and his practice address.

Ask the clerk if any lawsuits are pending against the doctor. She will check the court records and tell you if anyone has a current lawsuit against the doctor. If so, she can give you information about the case, such as the case number, the name of the plaintiff, sometimes referred to as the "complainant," and the date the plaintiff filed the lawsuit.
