How to Make Hanging Rose Balls

Roses come in nearly any color, making them an ideal flower choice for home decor and crafts. Use artificial or real roses to create rose balls, which you can suspend from the ceiling. You can use these rose balls to decorate for a wedding, bridal shower, baby shower or for everyday decor. Make roses, dye roses or buy roses in the desired colors. Use white roses for wedding decor, pink or blue for baby decor, and any color to spruce up your home.

Things You'll Need

• Hot glue gun with glue sticks
• Styrofoam balls
• Wide ribbon
• Silk, paper or dried roses
• Wire cutters
• Pin
• Ceiling hooks

Instructions

1. Turn the hot glue gun on so it is ready when you need to use it.

2. Select how many Styrofoam balls you want and what size. Bigger balls are easier to work with because you have more surface area. Find Styrofoam balls at craft or discount stores.

3. Secure a 2-foot ribbon to the ball by making a loop, overlapping the ends and pressing the ends into the ball with floral pins. Use hot glue to secure the ribbon in place.

4. Cut the wire stems off your flowers so you have a stub that is one-quarter inch long.

5. Press a pin into the Styrofoam where you want the flower to go.

6. Add a drop of hot glue into the pinhole.

7. Press the stem of the flower into the pinhole.

8. Continue adding flowers around the ball in this manner until it is completely covered. Avoid putting them too close together or they will look crowded.

9. Hang the ball from the ceiling using the ribbon and ceiling hooks.

Tips & Warnings

• Adjust the ribbon length to make a longer or shorter loop before you cut the ribbon.

• Add greenery to the roses by pressing silk greens around the flowers.

• If your flowers don't have wire bottoms, put a dab of hot glue on the bottom of the rose and press it against the Styrofoam as the glue sets.

• Make paper flowers by rolling 2-foot strips of crepe ribbon into a tight tube. As you work, pinch one side tightly closed and fan the top part out to make a flower. Use hot glue as you work to keep the flower from unfolding.

• Work carefully with hot glue so you don't burn your fingers.
