How to Make a Toy Boat Out of a Milk Jug
Instead of tossing that plastic milk jug into the recycling bin, turn it into a toy boat your child can float in the kiddie pool or bathtub. It costs little money to make and you won't feel guilty when it's time to throw it away. Get your kids involved in the project for a fun -- and easy -- way to spend time together.
Things You'll Need

- Acrylic paint
- Paintbrushes

1
Lay the milk jug on its side with the handle facing up and cut off the top portion, including the handle, with a craft knife. Leave the spout and cap in place. Check to ensure the edges are not so rough as to cut a child's finger. If the edges are too rough, glue felt strips over the edges.

2
Cut out a triangle from the felt and glue to the top section of the wooden dowel to make a sail.

3
Hot glue the wooden dowel to the inside center of the jug. Let it set.

4
Paint the boat with acrylic paint. Let the child choose a boat name and paint that on the side. Then let him paint any designs he wishes. Allow the paint to dry before floating the boat in water.
