How to Add a Ruffled Crochet Edge
Crochet is a method of creating fabric from thread, yarn, or other materials using a hook. You may crochet entire garments or items, including scarves, hats, tablecloths, or blankets. Those with beginner crochet skills can add a ruffled crochet edge to a blanket made from other materials, such as polar fleece.
Instructions

1
Insert your hook into the corner where you ended the blanket. Make a slipknot and put it onto your hook. Slip stitch the knot into the hole to anchor your working yarn to the blanket.
-
2
Double crochet 12 stitches into that corner hole. This is what creates the ruffle--when you put a bunch of stitches into one opening.

3
Move to the next hole and do six double crochet stitches in it. Do the same for each hole as you move along the blanket. If you want more of a ruffle, do more than six stitches in each hole. If you want less of a ruffle, do less than six stitches in each hole. You control the ruffle by the number of stitches you place into each hole.
-
4
When you get to the next corner, insert 12 double crochet stitches into the corner hole and continue along as before, placing six stitches into each hole along the side of the blanket. Continue on in this fashion all the way around the blanket.
-
5
When you reach the last hole in the blanket--right beside where you first inserted the 12 stitches--insert six stitches as normal and then perform a slip stitch into the top of the first of 12 stitches you did in that corner. Cut your yarn about three inches from your hook. This is a tail that you will weave in. Pull on the yarn loop with your hook to make the loop larger until the yarn end comes through the last stitch.

Tips & Warnings
Use any color yarn for your project, but a contrasting color makes a bold statement for a ruffled crochet edge. Choose a yarn that's suitable for the size hook you plan to use, or choose a hook that is the proper gauge for the yarn you plan to use. Check the yarn wrapper for suggested hook sizes.
