Begin to crochet the turtleneck collar. With the hook that was used to form the body of the crocheted sweater and a slip stitch, attach a new piece of yarn to one of the shoulder seams. Single crochet and chain 1 around the perimeter of the neck opening, maintaining an even base from which the rest of the turtleneck collar can be attached. Join the first single crochet stitch with a slip stitch. Switch to a smaller size of hook needles, and chain 41 additional stitches.

Using the smaller set of hook needles, single crochet the second chain. Continue to single crochet each stitch across, for a total of 40 additional crochet stitches. Use a slip stitch to form the next free single stitch on the neck side of the collar. The first row of the turtleneck collar has been completed.

Chain 1 and continue to single crochet across the remainder of the collar. Tie off the yarn, and remove the loose end carefully with a sharp scissors.
