How to Build a 100KV Electric Output Unit

Generators that can produce 100kV are used for research purposes and to check power cables for the necessary insulation properties. To make these output units, AC voltage is supplied to oscillators with an audio frequency or a power frequency. You must attach transformers and wire power feed to generate the high frequency wanted.

Things You'll Need

  • Soldering tool
  • Current feed wires
  • High frequency generator
  • Switch
  • High frequency transformers
  • Inductance coil
  • Spark gap
  • Variable capacitor

Instructions

    • 1

Solder the wires to the transformers and capacitors to create an electric output unit to attach to the device you're supplying the 100kV. Attach the feed alternating wires to the 110v high frequency generator on the positive and negative poles.

    • 2

Add switches to each wire that lead to high frequency transformers. Attach an inductance coil to the transformer on the positive side of the generator and a spark gap on the negative side.

    • 3

Connect a variable capacitor to link both wires. Wrap the wire around the transformer as the primary winding.

    • 4

Create a secondary winding along the transformer. Attach one end of the wire to a capacitor that leads to your ground. The other end will lead to the device that will receive the 100kV.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always take the necessary precautions when working with high electricity. Ensure all power is off when making all connections.
