How to Melt Marshmallows in the Oven for S'mores thumbnail
Eating s'mores can be quite messy at times.

S'mores have been a popular camping food ever since they made their first appearance in a Girl Scouts of America handbook back in 1927. S'mores have become so popular that August 10 is unofficially known as "National S'mores Day." Although a common camping treat, s'mores (graham crackers, chocolate candy and marshmallows) can be made even easier at home. Using your oven's broiler element can recreate the same color and texture of campfire s'mores in the comfort of your own home, minus the smoke. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Preheat your oven to broil. Adjust the top oven rack so that it is about 2 to 3 inches below the broiler element.

    • 2

Arrange the chocolate bar piece on graham cracker half. Place one or two large marshmallows on top of the chocolate. Repeat for all other s'mores.

    • 3

Place the s'mores on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the oven. Leave the oven door slightly ajar to help regulate the oven's temperature.

    • 4

Broil for about two to three minutes until the marshmallow and chocolate begin to melt and the marshmallow begins to turn brown. Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Top the marshmallow with a graham cracker half. Allow to cool for several minutes before serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • Watch the marshmallow carefully, as it can go from brown to burnt in a matter of seconds.
