How to Create a Project Plan in OpenOffice

A project plan can help keep you focused on accomplishing each task in a project within budget and on time. If you use the OpenOffice productivity software, you don't have to buy a dedicated project planning application. Project plan templates are available for download free of charge from the OpenOffice website. They are easily modifiable to fit the needs of your project, and open directly in the applicable OpenOffice program.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the OpenOffice Templates website (see Resources).

    • 2

Type "Project Plan" in the search bar in the upper left side of the page, then click the "Search" button. A list of available project plan templates opens.

    • 3

Select a project plan template from the list, then click the "Use It" button. The file automatically downloads to your computer.

    • 4

Double-click the project plan file to launch it in the appropriate OpenOffice application. For example, if the project plan template is a text document, it automatically opens in the Writer application.

    • 5

Modify the template until it is populated with the specifics of your project. For example, change the project template's items and dates to match your project. Save the changes when you finish modifying the template.
