How to Use the Steam Rack in a SYLVANIA Rice Cooker

The Sylvania rice cooker steams rice until it is soft and fluffy. Adding rice and liquid to the machine in the specified measurements will ensure that your rice cooker produces tender rice from each batch. The steam rack included with the rice cooker lets you steam vegetables and other foods, making your rice cooker a universal tool for preparing light and healthy meals. After the cooking time completes, the rice cooker switches the heat to a warm setting, keeping your food warm until you are ready to serve it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash the vegetables thoroughly. Prepare the vegetables for cooking by peeling, trimming or cutting them as desired.

    • 2

Place small vegetables into a heat-safe dish. Put the rice bowl into the cooker. Add water to the bowl until you fill it to the line immediately below the steam rack. Place the steam rack on top.

    • 3

Position the bowl of vegetables in the center of the steamer rack. Place large vegetables on the steamer rack.

    • 4

Secure the lid on the rice cooker. Plug in the power cord then push and release the power button. Check the vegetables at the recommended time. Steaming takes as little as four minutes for quick-cooking vegetables like mushrooms or up to 20 minutes for potatoes. Most vegetables cook within 10 minutes. If you need more cooking time, unplug the rice cooker before adding more water. Pour a small amount of water into the rice bowl then cover it and plug it back in. Push the power button again to start the cooking time.

    • 5

Remove the vegetables from the rack then wash the rack by hand with a soapy hot water solution.

Tips & Warnings

  • Unplug the cooker after use. The rice cooker will not turn off until it is unplugged.
