DIY Winter Knit Headbands
Making your own knit headband is a cost-effective way to stay warm in the winter. A headband requires a basic and straightforward crocheting technique and will take you only a couple of hours to accomplish. Choosing a medium to large size crocheting needle will give each headband chain thickness and girth -- suitable for warding off cold weather. Once you master your knitting method, give headbands as winter holiday gifts to family, friends or the fellow crochet enthusiast in your life.

1
Place a ball of yarn by your side. Pull a yarn strand from the center of the ball to maintain tension.
-
2
Tie a slip knot in the end of the strand. Fit the slip knot over a size 10 crochet hook. Pull the knot taught -- but not too tight.
-
-
3
Wrap the strand one time around the front of the hook. Pull the hook through the knot to create your first chain stitch. Continue this step 20 times to create a 3-inch-wide chain. The 3-inch-wide chain constitutes your first row of stitches.
-
4
Flip the headband chain 180 degrees. Chain stitch a second row of stitches. Flip the headband chains 180 degrees again. Chain stitch a third row of stitches. Continue the flipping and stitching process until you have a headband long enough to fit snug around your head.
-
5
Stitch together both short ends of the headband using cross stitch pattern with a needle and thread to complete the project. Employ a thread that matches the color of the yarn.
