How to Connect a Rod and Cap Grinder

A grinder is a machine shop tool that is used, as the name suggests, to grind down metal parts and pieces. Grinders come in a variety of different shapes and sizes. One type of grinder is the rod and cap grinder. Rod and cap grinders are specifically designed for grinding down engine rods and caps. Occasionally these parts may need to be ground down, especially when they are being refurbished for use in an engine rebuild. Mounting and connecting the rod and cap grinder takes about 15 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the rod and cap grinder on the work bench or table where it will be mounted. Use a marker to make marks where the four mounting holes are located and then move the grinder out of the way.

    • 2

Use the drill to drill the four mounting holes.

    • 3

Place the rod and cap grinder back in place and insert the mounting bolts by hand. Tighten these bolts with the pipe wrench.

    • 4

Plug the rod and cap grinder into an electrical outlet. Depending on the make and model of the individual rod and cap grinder, a 220-volt plug adapter or a 220-volt wall socket may be needed.
