The term "red papaya" is actually a misnomer, because the flesh of a ripe red papaya is actually closer to orange in color, while the skin is more of a greenish-yellow. Red papayas -- sometimes known as Hawaiian papayas -- are very sweet and high in both vitamin C and beta carotene. Red papaya can be eaten straight from the tree or added to dishes such as fruit salad or salsa. There are numerous seeds found in the center of a red papaya that must be removed before you can cut the fruit for use. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Vegetable peeler (optional)
  • Spoon (optional)

Instructions

      Use a sharp knife to split the papaya in half lengthwise.

      Use a tablespoon or your fingers to scoop all of the seeds from both halves of the papaya.

      Use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin. Alternatively, slide a spoon between the skin and the flesh and scoop the flesh onto a cutting board.

      Turn the papaya halves over and cut them into slices or diced pieces.
