How to Customize Product Promotion on a YouTube Page

Whether you're a small business with one product to promote, or a large corporation with hundreds of popular products, there's no doubt that YouTube is a crucial place to promote your stuff. With billions of videos being watched every day, it's clear that the video-sharing site has a big reach, and one that your company would do well to pay attention to. If you're looking to promote a certain product, you have a number of ways to customize your channel —also called a "page"—to best feature that product.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a channel for the particular product you want to promote. Since YouTube channels are free to create, it doesn't hurt to give your product its own "home" that you can customize to the look and feel of that product.

    • 2

Customize the background to show the product in its best light. Once you have a channel set up for the product, navigate to the channel page and click Themes and Settings. Then add custom colors for your background and text, and insert a background image of your product.

    • 3

Create videos that tell an ongoing story. When you're thinking about customizing your channel, you want to offer something that makes your product stand out. By telling an ongoing story about your product, for example, how it was made and the people who contributed to making it, or how certain people have been affected by your product, you give viewers something more than a commercial; you give them a unique look into the product which makes them want to visit your channel again.

    • 4

Determine the placement of your videos and the order they go in. You have the power to decide which video is your "featured video" that plays automatically when someone visits your channel—be sure that video is your best one, and provides valuable information about your product. Then use the "arrange" feature under your list of video uploads to customize the top videos that will appear on the page.

    • 5

Arrange your modules in a way that best suits your product and your company. By clicking Modules at the top of the channel, you can decide which modules—such as comments, event dates and subscriptions—should be featured on your channel, and in what order.

Set up a branded channel through YouTube, allowing you to further customize the look of your channel. Branded channels allow for more customization than regular channels, with a custom logo and heading, and a custom background image. Additionally, branded channels can feature "widgets" that allow users to engage with the channel in different ways. Branded channels do cost money; contact a YouTube representative through the Advertising page to set one up.
