How to Make a Strawberry Daiquiri Candle

A strawberry daiquiri is a refreshing afternoon treat.

The bills are due to be paid, dirty dishes are soaking and the laundry is piling up. Some afternoons, enjoying a strawberry daiquiri is much more tempting than facing the chores of the day. A strawberry daiquiri candle will give you a similar refreshing sensory experience while allowing you to accomplish the tasks of the day. Make your own strawberry daiquiri candle to light the next time you need a little pick-me-up in the afternoon.

Things You'll Need

• Hot glue gun
• Candle wick with metal base
• Cocktail glass
• Butter knife
• Double boiler
• Soy wax
• Candy thermometer
• Strawberry fragrance oil
• Red dye
• Spoon
• Pencil
• Dried strawberries
• Wooden skewer
• Glass swizzle stick
• Scissors

Instructions

1. 

   Select a cocktail glass with a short stem to reduce risk of spills.

   Place a quarter-size dab of hot glue on the bottom of the wick's metal base. Place the metal base on the bottom of the cocktail in glass. Push in place with butter knife to secure.

2. 

   Heat the wax no higher than 200 degree Fahrenheit.

   Boil water in the base of a double boiler. Pour enough soy wax pieces to fill the glass one and a half times or cut a large soy wax piece to place in the boiler, Place a candy thermometer in the melting wax. Monitor the temperature to maintain around 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Stir in four drops of strawberry fragrance oil and two drops of red dye into the molten wax. Adjust the fragrance and dye per your preference.

3. 

   Use a candy thermometer to maintain temperature.

   Turn the double boiler off when the wax reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes. Pour the molten wax into the cocktail glass when the temperature cools to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Fill the glass one-fourth of an inch higher than you desire the candle to be to leave room for shrinkage as the wax cools. Push slices of dried strawberries into the wax with a wooden skewer. If you wish, add a glass swizzle stick to complete the daiquiri candle. Wrap the excess wick around a pencil laid across the glass to keep it centered.

4. 

   Trim the wick to ensure even burning.

   Allow the wax to completely cool for eight hours. Trim the wick to 1/4 inch.
