1
Identify the location of the entertainment. The area with your entertainment will probably be loud or distract guests from talking. For example, if you host a sports party, a television may be noisy, and guests may cheer for different teams. If you host a dance party, the area where music is playing may be the most difficult to hear conversations.

2
Select an area accessible to the entertainment, but not next to it. Make sure that furniture or other items do not block access to the conversation area.

3
Arrange chairs in clusters, in the conversation area, so guests can comfortably sit while they talk. Make sure there are small tables where guests are conversing. Place food and napkins on them. This allows guests to enjoy conversing without leaving the area because they want food. Leave a few tables empty, so guests can perch food on them as they socialize.

4
Decorate the conversation area, so it coincides with the party theme. For example, place some pennants in a sports party conversation area.
