How to Make a Greek Mythological Costume out of a Sheet
Whether it's for a Halloween bash or a fraternity party, a plain white bed sheet is the most economical way to create a toga costume. Togas were worn in ancient Rome and Greece — Greek mythological figures are often depicted wearing these garments. In modern times, togas have become the required outfit for college toga parties. Although toga styles vary from fairly authentic to more modern twists, keep things as simple as possible when using bed sheets, which may be a bit stiff and heavy, depending on the material.

Men's Toga
-
1
Wear a plain white T-shirt, unless you want to go bare-chested, and a pair of shorts.
-
2
Wrap a sheet that's 4 to 6 yards long around your waist once, starting from your belly button. Secure with a safety pin under your bellybutton.
-
-
3
Throw the excess sheet over one shoulder so that it hangs down to your waist in the back. If it goes well past your waist, start over and wrap the sheet around your waist twice.
-
4
Tuck in the excess hanging sheet on your back into the pocket created by the sheet around your waist.
Women's Toga
-
5
Hold the sheet up behind you as if you're getting ready to wrap a towel around yourself.
-
6
Wrap the side of the sheet in your left hand underneath your left armpit and across your chest to the right armpit. Hold in place with your hand.
-
7
Wrap the side of the sheet in your right hand under your right armpit and over your chest so that it covers the first side, but throw it over your left shoulder rather than placing it underneath your armpit.
-
8
Pin the sheet hanging over left shoulder to the sheet wrapped around your back. Pin the sheets together underneath your armpit on the right side to secure the sheet.
-
9
Wrap a thin gold belt or rope around your waist to cinch your waist.

Tips & Warnings
Men may also wrap the toga like the women's version if they want more coverage. Just use an extra-large sheet to make it baggy so the the sheet over your shoulder drapes down your arm like a sleeve.
