Refill your old makeup jar instead of purchasing a new one.

Mineral makeup is an alternative to liquid or pressed powder foundation. It generally comes as a loose powder in a tin or jar. Some companies sell makeup powder refills in plastic baggies instead of requiring repeat customers to purchase new jars or tins. However, filling the jar with messy loose powder can sometimes seem like more trouble than it's worth. There are a few techniques you can use to make this process a bit easier. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take the plastic filter out of the tin. The plastic filter is filled with holes, which filters and thins the makeup before you apply it.

    • 2

Wash and dry the top, bottom and filter of your tin. You want to make sure you wash all remnants of the old makeup out to prevent bacterial contamination of your new makeup. Be sure to dry the tin thoroughly, as any dampness will cause your new makeup to cake.

    • 3

Open the plastic baggie with your refill. The powder will detach from the sides and fall to the bottom of the bag.

    • 4

Tilt the bag on its side and tap the powder to that side, so one of the bottom corners is empty.

    • 5

Snip the corner of the empty side and then tap the bag so the powder falls neatly into your empty jar.

    • 6

Replace the plastic filter and lid.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to wash and dry your mineral makeup brush or kabuki brush each time you refill your makeup tin. Simply wet the brush and work a mild soap into the bristles, using your fingers. Rinse completely and then squeeze as much water out of the brush as you can. Let the brush dry overnight.
