DIY MAP Adjuster
Creating an adjuster for your Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor will help you control the air and fuel mixture for your vehicle. This is especially helpful when your vehicle is running slightly lean or rich after tweaking it. The MAP adjuster can increase the engine control unit's input voltage, which will increase the injector duty cycle and supply additional fuel. Reducing the voltage through the MAP adjuster will have the opposite effect of reducing the vehicle's fuel intake.
Things You'll Need
- Regulator
- Potentiometer
- Terminal block
- Plastic box
- Rivet
- Heat sink
- Wires
- Switch
- Wire cutters
- Soldering kit
Instructions
-
-
1
Bend the regulator's left-most and right-most pins outward and down.
-
2
Slide the regulator's three pins into the terminal block's No. 2, 3 and 4 slots. If necessary, solder additional wire onto the regulator's pins so they fit into the terminal strip.
-
-
3
Take the potentiometer and slide its wiper and one other pin into the terminal block's No. 1 and 2 slots, on the side opposite that of the regulator.
-
4
Take the resistor and slide two of its pins into the terminal block's No. 2 and 3 slots, on the same side as the regulator.
-
5
Tighten the terminal block's screws until they're all secure.
-
6
Place the MAP adjuster into a plastic box slightly larger than itself.
-
7
Fasten a rivet to the regulator and heat sink from the other side of the box.
-
8
Connect a gray wire from the terminal block's No. 1 slot to the firewall, a purple wire from the terminal block's No. 3 slot to the switch and a red wire from the terminal block's No. 4 slot to the 12-volt input.
-
9
Attach the switch next to the gray wire coming from the terminal block's No. 1 slot.
-
10
Terminate the purple wire at the switch's first position.
-
11
Connect a purple wire to the switch's center position from the modified or stock voltage, depending on the switch's orientation. This wire transports the return voltage.
-
12
Connect the white wire from the MAP's 5-volt input to the switch's last position.
-
13
Mount the MAP adjuster box in the car, away from any sources of heat or water. Your MAP adjuster is now ready for testing.

Tips & Warnings
Only a professional should attempt to modify the MAP as mistakes may cause permanent damage to the vehicle.
