How to Specify Formative Models in LISREL

LISREL (Linear Structural Relations) is a software package used for statistical modeling. Using the LISREL suite of software, you can model data sets in a variety of ways. The program has expanded recently, so that LISREL is now a software suite that includes seven different tools. This can make it difficult to figure out how to specify a formative model, since the program titled LISREL no longer handles this. However, it’s as simple as ever; you just need to open the right tool.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the LISREL folder (in “Program Files”) on your computer.

    • 2

Open “Catfirm.exe” if your data contains categorical (noncontinuous) variables. Open “Confirm.exe” if your data contains continuous variables. These are the two programs in the LISREL suite dedicated to formative modeling. By opening either of these, you are specifying formative modeling.

    • 3

Click the plus sign ("+") to import your data and create the model.
