1
Remove all of the furniture and other items from the balcony. Sweep up any debris from the floor with a broom then inspect the floor for large cracks or uneven areas. If these are found, apply a coat of self-leveling patching compound to create a smoother surface. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for application and drying time.

2
Measure the length and width of the balcony. Multiply these numbers to determine the square footage of balcony pavers you need to purchase. Purchase 5 to 10 percent extra in case you cut a paver incorrectly or one breaks.

3
Determine the layout of the paver installation. Some pavers have a pattern so that you can create a design on the floor.

4
Start laying the pavers at one of the outside corners of the balcony. Set the paver in the corner then set another paver next to it. Snap the two of them together. Snap another paver onto the remaining free side of the corner paver. Place the pavers on the floor by working your way from the starting corner to the opposite corner.

Measure the remaining gap where you cannot fit pavers along the wall. Mark where you need to cut the excess material from the paver. Remove the screws along the outer edge of the paver where you need to cut it. Cut the paver with a circular saw, jigsaw or a hand saw. Snap the cut paver into position. Repeat, as necessary, to complete each row.

Tips & Warnings
If you don’t want to cut the pavers, fill in any gaps with small, smooth stones for a garden effect.
This type of paver system has matching edge pavers that give the project a finished look. You may also be able to use these pavers instead of cutting full-size ones.
Make a cardboard template for round or irregular shapes. Cut irregular shapes with a jigsaw after you remove any screws that could get in the way of the blade.
