How to Configure Your Security on Your SB5100 Modem
The Motorola SB5100 is a cable modem that many high-speed Internet service providers give to their customers during the installation process. You can connect your PC directly to the SB5100 modem using an Ethernet cable to access the Internet. When configuring the advanced security settings for the SB5100 modem, you can choose to receive an automatic IP address or use a private one that you have previously obtained.

Make sure the SB5100 modem is powered on and connected to your PC with an Ethernet cable.

Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

Click on the "Network and Internet Connections" icon.

Click on the "Network Connections" icon underneath the task list.

Right-click on the icon for your Ethernet adapter and choose "Properties" from the contextual menu that appears.

Make sure the box next to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" is checked and then click on the "Properties" button.

Select the radio button labeled "Obtain an IP address automatically" if you want the SB5100 modem to receive a dynamic IP address.

Select the radio button labeled "Use the following IP address" if you want to use a private IP address. Fill in the four fields with the IP address you want to use.

Click "OK" to save the security settings for your SB5100 modem.
