How to Set Up Your Enclosed Trailer to Haul Dirt Bikes

Open trailers pose many dangers to your dirt bike due to the elements, so an enclosed trailer is the sensible choice when hauling your dirt bike. The enclosed trailer guards the dirt bike from exposure to sun, wind, moisture and debris. It also protects it from theft in most cases. Choose a trailer that already has anchors attached to the floor and sides. The anchors allow you to attach the straps from the dirt bike to the interior of the trailer.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the tie-down anchors in your trailer along the floors and walls. Choose a location for your dirt bike that is between the sets of anchors, giving it the best chance of being secured properly.

    • 2

Roll your bike into the trailer and place it between the anchors. Lift the front and back tires to set tire chucks under each tire. Position the tires so they are lined up with the bike.

    • 3

Ask an assistant to sit on the bike for you. This compresses the shocks slightly and allows you to keep a tight hold on the bike as you tie it down.

    • 4

Secure transport ratchet straps to the handles of the bike. Secure the other ends of the straps to the anchors in the bottom of the enclosed trailer. Pull the straps taut on each end of the bike.

    • 5

Ask your assistant to step off the bike. Drape a strap over the seat that reaches the anchors on each side of the bike. Tighten the straps down until the back of the bike compresses, making it difficult for the bike’s back tire to bounce around during transport.

    • 6

Drape another ratchet strap over the back tire of the dirt bike. The tire chucks prevent the tires from rotating, so your tire won’t slide under the strap. Secure the strap to the anchors on each side of the bike.
