How to Make Backlinks Show Up thumbnail
Actively building backlinks to a website helps it get noticed by search engines.

Building backlinks to your website is an essential part of an effective SEO strategy. The more backlinks the pages on your website have, the greater the value of those pages with respect to search engines. There’s no foolproof way to get search engines to accurately catalog your website’s backlinks, to ensure you get credit for them. However, to give your backlinks every opportunity to get noticed by search engine crawlers, you can conduct a search to see if the pages publishing them are cataloged by the search engine. If not, submit the URLs to the search engine.

Instructions

  1. Building Backlinks

    • 1

Write and publish articles on article directory websites such as EzineArticles, SelfGrowth, GetMyArticles or GoArticles. These directories allow you to publish backlinks to your website in the author’s bio.

    • 2

Submit your website to Web directories such as the Open Directory Project, the Yahoo Directory or the Pegasus Directory.

    • 3

Enter a keyword phrase that describes your website in the search bar of your Web browser. Review the websites in the search results to assess which sites are kindred to yours. If a website focuses on the same subjects offered on your website, send an email to the webmaster to request a link exchange.

    • 4

Make social bookmark widgets available on every page of your website that you want to build backlinks to. Each page on your site that is submitted to a “DoFollow” social bookmarking website equals a valuable backlink to your site.

Verifying Whether a Page Is Cataloged by Search Engines

    • 5

Go to a Web page that publishes your backlink.

    • 6

Click inside the browser’s address bar. Type “Ctrl” plus “C” to copy the complete Web page address, or URL.

    • 7

Click inside the browser’s search bar, type “Ctrl” plus “V” to paste the Web page address, and press “Enter.” If the Web page shows up in the search results, the search engine does periodically crawl it. Your backlink will be registered by the search engine, in time. If the Web page doesn’t show up in the search results, submit the URL to the search engine and hope that the page will eventually get crawled.

    Submitting a URL to Google
