How to Automatically Chat With Someone on Gchat thumbnail
Gchat is accessible through multiple Google products.

If you have a Google account, you are automatically approved to use Google Chat, also known as Gchat. You do not need to sign up for a separate account. You can access Gchat in a Web browser by signing in to your Gmail, Google+, iGoogle or Orkut account. If you prefer, you can chat with someone via the stand-alone Google Talk voice and video chat program. Starting a chat with one of your Google contacts takes just a click.

Instructions

    • 1

Log into your Google account in a Web browser and navigate to Gmail, Google+, iGoogle or Orkut. Alternatively, you can launch the Google Talk software and sign in using your Google username and password.

    • 2

Hover your mouse over someone's name in your Gchat contact list and click the "Chat" button when it appears. If you are using Google Talk, just click a contact name in your "Friends" list.

    • 3

Type a message in the Gchat window and press "Enter" on your keyboard. The message automatically appears if the contact is signed into Gchat. If the contact is offline, she will receive the message when she logs in.
