How to Crochet a Poinsettia
Crocheting can be a relaxing hobby, especially amidst the hustle and bustle that accompanies the holiday season. Release some of the holiday stress by curling up in a cozy chair with some red, green and yellow yarn and a crochet hook to craft a poinsettia for your holiday table centerpiece. Poinsettias are a popular plant sold during the Christmas season. While the process of crocheting a detailed piece such as a poinsettia can be time consuming, the end result will add some holiday spirit to your table for many years to come.

- Red, green and yellow worsted weight yarn

Create a series of rings to form the first petal of the poinsettia by crocheting the following pattern with red yarn:
Four single crochets, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in a new stitch, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in a new stitch, two single crochets in a new stitch, two single crochets in a new stitch, two single crochets in a new stitch, two single crochets in a new stitch, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in the next three stitches, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in the next four stitches, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in the next four stitches, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in the next four stitches, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in the next five stitches, two single crochets in a new stitch, one single crochet in the next five stitches, one single crochet in each stitch around the next ring, one single crochet decrease in the next five stitches, one single crochet decrease in the next five stitches, one single crochet decrease in the next four stitches, one single crochet decrease in the next four stitches, one single crochet decrease in the next four stitches, one single crochet decrease in the next three stitches and one single crochet decrease in the next three stitches.
Fasten your petal when complete and repeat this pattern five more times using red yarn to form six petals for the poinsettia.

Create another series of rings to form the first leaf on the poinsettia by crocheting the same pattern in Step 1, using green yarn this time. Fasten your leaf when complete and repeat the pattern five more times using green yarn to form six leaves for the poinsettia.

Create another series of rings to form the center of the poinsettia using yellow yarn to crochet the following pattern:
Six single crochets, one front loop single crochet, two front loop chains, one front loop single crochet and five single crochets.
Fasten your center when complete.

Lay all six petals in one circle and all six leaves in another circle.

Use a yarn needle and green yarn to stitch all of the leaves together at the inner center of the circle.

Use a yarn needle and red yarn to stitch all of the red leaves together at the inner center of the circle. Stitch tighter than the leaves so that the petal circle is slightly smaller than the leaf circle.

Lay the red petal circle on top of the green petal circle. Place the yellow center at the center of the red petals. Stitch all three layers together from the back of the poinsettia.
