Crocheting and knitting is increasing in popularity, a trend that could be due to the teaching done by current needlework enthusiasts. In a 2010 survey, 80% of respondents said they taught at least one person to crochet or knit in the past year. The same study found that smaller projects, such as hats and gloves, were the most popular crocheting projects. Although these projects are small, you'll need to know how to join their edgings to successfully complete them.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the two pieces on a flat surface side-by-side with the edges lined up.

    • 2

Thread the yarn needle with yarn.

    • 3

Insert the yarn needle through the first bottom stitch on the crocheted piece on the right.

    • 4

Insert the yarn needle through the first bottom stitch on the crocheted piece on the left.

    • 5

Work your way up the edges. Insert the needle through the stitch above the previous and alternate the weaving on the right and left sides.

    • 6

Cut the yarn with scissors when you've finished weaving the edges.

    • 7

Tie a simple knot, such as a slip knot, at the end of the yarn to secure it in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • When joining the edges, use yarn that is the same color as the crocheted pieces.

  • Yarn needles are sharp; weave slowly and use a thimble if you have one.
