Body pillows help you sleep comfortably.

A body pillow is a long, skinny pillow used to alleviate back and belly pain. Commonly used by women during pregnancy, these pillows are perfect for placing between the knees or under the belly. Body pillows placed between the knees help to align the backbone and remove stress placed on the lower back for a more restful sleep. Make a body pillow from just over a yard of fabric and some polystyrene foam beads. These beads mold to the body to eliminate painful pressure points during sleep. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut a piece of fabric that is 26 inches wide and 50 inches long. This will give you a pillow that is 1 foot wide by 4 feet long.

    • 2

Fold the fabric lengthwise with the print sides of the fabric touching and line up all the edges to make a long rectangle of fabric. This will give you three sides with the raw edges of the fabric touching and one edge that is the fold of the fabric.

    • 3

Pin around the three open edges with straight pins spaced every 2 to 3 inches.

    • 4

Sew together one short side and the long side that has pins, with a 1-inch seam. Continue sewing the last short side, but stop sewing 6 inches from the end of the side. Remove the pins in the fabric as you sew.

    • 5

Turn the pillow right-side out through the 6-inch hole left not sewn.

    • 6

Insert the tip of a funnel into the 6-inch hole.

    • 7

Pour polystyrene beads into the funnel to fill the pillow.

    • 8

Thread a needle and pinch the 6-inch hole closed.

    • 9

Hand sew the 6-inch hole closed. Tie a knot in the thread to secure. Snip the tail with scissors.
