How to Divide Hair for Straightening

How to Divide Hair for Straightening thumbnail
Straighten your hair to make it look smooth and elegant.

You can divide your hair into sections with clips and a comb before you straighten it. Doing this will make your hair more manageable while you're working, since you will handle only a small section of hair at a time. You will be able to see each section clearly when you straighten your locks, because the rest will be clipped out of the way. After you divide your hair, you can straighten it with a ceramic flat iron. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Brush any tangles out of your hair with the boar-bristle brush. Part your hair down the middle of the top of your head. Place the teeth of the comb on the crown of your head, and then move it in a straight line until it reaches the middle of your hairline.

Part the hair on the back of your head. Place the comb on the crown of your head, and move it toward the middle of the back of your neck. Wrap an elastic band around the hair on the left side of your part.

    • 3

Divide the other section of hair into top and bottom layers. Place the teeth of the comb on the middle of the back of your head, over the part. Move the comb in a straight line toward your right temple.

    • 4

Clip down your divided hair. Grasp the top layer of hair on the right side of your head and twist it. Clip the end of the strand of hair 3 inches above your right ear with the pelican clip. Twist the bottom layer of hair, and clip the ends behind your ear.

Remove the elastic hair band. Divide the hair on the left side of your head the same way you did on the right side of your head. Clip the top section above your left ear, and clip the bottom section behind the same ear. Look in the mirror to confirm that the sections are even and symmetrical.
