The sheets are essentially tiles held together with a flexible netting that can be cut. Tiles come in a wide variety of colors and shapes. Experience cutting tile is helpful, but you can complete this project while the mirror is still hanging on the wall. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Determine how wide you want the mirror’s new frame to be.

    • 2

Measure around the edge of the mirror’s frame.

    • 3

Determine how long and how wide the strips of tile sheet need to be to fit around the frame. The strips don't need to overlap at the ends. For example, if you have a mirror that's 12-by-24 inches and you want the border 2 inches wide, you would need two 12-inch strips of tile sheet for the top and the bottom, and two 20-inch strips for each side.

    • 4

Cut the tiles sheets into the strips you need, using heavy-duty scissors. You'll likely need more than one sheet for each side. Cut the netting between the tiles, taking care not to drop the sheet as the tiles may shatter. If necessary, cut through the tiles themselves with tile cutters to get a measurement that matches your mirror.

    • 5

Trim away any netting material from the edges of the strips to provide a tidier edge.

    • 6

Apply a thin layer of tile adhesive to the back of one of the tile strips. You can apply adhesive with the putty knife.

    • 7

Press the tile strip to the edge of the mirror, holding it in place for 30 seconds until the adhesive sets. If you are concerned that the tile might fall off, use masking tape to tape it in place until the glue cures.

    • 8

Continue applying the tile strips to the edge of the mirror until the mirror is completely encircled.

    • 9

Allow the tile adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually 24 hours. Remove any tape on the tile.

Tips & Warnings

  • Clean up any adhesive spills or dribbles immediately with a wet rag. If the glue is particularly stubborn, use acetone or rubbing alcohol to remove it.
