1
Measure the length of the curtain rod from wall to wall. Cut two strips of grass-green fabric with thin white stripes 13 inches wide and 2 inches longer than the curtain rod. Cut so that the stripes are parallel to the short sides of the strip.
-
2
Place one piece of fabric right side up on a flat surface. Place the second piece on top, right side down with all edges even.
-
-
3
Stitch the pieces together by sewing 1/2 inch from the edge with a straight stitch. Start at the end of one of the short sides. Sew to the corner and stop with the needle down in the fabric. Raise the pressure foot, turn the fabric 90 degrees to go around the corner, lower the pressure foot and continue sewing along the long side. Turn the second corner in the same way and sew to the end of the second short side.
-
4
Clip the corners of the seam allowances, the fabric that extends beyond the seam, at a 45-degree angle. Turn the valance right side out and press it flat.
-
5
Zigzag stitch the remaining long side edges together. Fold down 1 1/2 inch on this side to make a casing. Stitch 1/4 inch from the zigzagged edge to hold the casing in place.
-
6
Cut an 8-inch football shape from brown felt. Cut rounded white stripes for the football from white felt, and glue them on with fabric glue. Draw the lacings with white fabric paint.
-
7
Sew the football to the center of the valance below the casing. Sew a felt team pennant on each side. Place all the felt accents at an angle for the best effect.
-
8
Thread the valance onto the curtain rod. The valance will be 1 inch longer than the rod so there will not be a gap between the valance and the wall.
