How to Make a Beaded Santa Claus on a Neck Ribbon

Make a whimsical Santa necklace using craft materials.

Do not spend a lot of money on premade presents when you are planning on buying gifts for your family and friends for Christmas. Instead of purchasing gifts from a department store, make handmade gifts using craft supplies. For example, create whimsical beaded Santa Claus neck ribbons for your friends and family members to wear. Buy all of the supplies you need to make beaded Santa necklaces from an arts and crafts store.

Things You'll Need

• Ribbon, 1/2-inch wide
• Scissors
• Wooden bead, 1/2-inch in diameter
• Fine-tipped permanent marker, black
• Craft glue
• White wool roving
• Red felt

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of 1/2-inch-wide ribbon to measure 18 inches long. Select a ribbon color that is symbolic of Christmas, such as red or green.

2. String a 1/2-inch wide wooden bead onto the ribbon. Select a light brown-colored bead if you are making a European-American Santa Claus, or use a medium to dark brown-colored bead if you are making an Asian, Latino or African-American Santa Claus.

3. Draw a face onto one side of the bead using a fine-tipped black permanent marker.

4. Apply a line of craft glue along the bottom edge of the bead, then press a finger full of white wool roving onto the glue. Allow the roving to hang down freely as Santa Clause's beard. Allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes.

5. Cut a piece of red felt into a triangle measuring 1 1/2 inches on all sides.

6. Squeeze a line of craft glue along one edge of the triangle, then curl the triangle into a cone. Press the edges of the cone together along the glued line, then allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes.

7. Squeeze a line of craft glue around the opened edge of the cone, then press a finger full of white wool roving around the glue-covered edge. Allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes.

8. Apply craft glue around the top of the wooden bead, then press the cone Santa hat onto the top of the bead. Allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes.

9. Tie the ends of the ribbon together to complete the beaded Santa Claus neck ribbon.

• Avoid applying craft glue onto the bead holes.

• Keep sharp scissors out of the reach of children.
