Encrypt your email with Pretty Good Privacy technology.

Encrypting your Bluehost email is important if you don't want your emails being intercepted and read by a hacker. You can use the Pretty Good Privacy encryption method to increase email security and keep your messages private. Only the recipient who has the correct key can unlock the message and read its contents.

Instructions

    • 1

Download Pretty Good Privacy encryption software. You can find free PGP software online or purchase one from a software developer. GnuPG is a freeware version and Symantec Encryption is a paid version. Once you have downloaded the software, install it on your computer. Installation may take several minutes to complete.

    • 2

Navigate to bluehost.com in a Web browser, and then click the "Control Panel Login" button at the top of the front page and type your domain and password on the next screen. Click the "Login" button to access the control panel for your Bluehost account.

    • 3

Click the "Email Accounts" icon from the control panel screen. On the page, type the email username and password, and then click the "Login" button.

    • 4

Click the "Compose" link from the online mail client. Type your message in the body field of the email. Press the "Ctrl" plus "A" keys simultaneously to highlight the text, and then copy it by pressing "Ctrl" plus "C." The text is saved into the computer's memory buffer for later use.

    • 5

Launch the PGP software. Choose the encrypt option and when a dialog box appears, press the "Ctrl" and "V" keys simultaneously to paste the text. Click the "Encrypt" button and the program jumbles the text into an unreadable format.

    • 6

Highlight and copy the encrypted text, and then paste it back into the Bluehost email, replacing the original message with the encrypted text. Finish composing the email by entering the recipient's email address in the To field, and then click the "Send" button.
