Tips & Warnings
  • HTML stands for "hypertext markup language." It's not really a programming language; it's a compilation of formatting codes. So you don't need to be afraid of it!
  • To try your new HTML skills, type your HTML and text in any simple text program, such as the Notepad in Windows. Open the file in your browser to see how it looks. (Choose Open from the File menu and navigate through your hard disk to find your new HTML file and open it.)
  • When you type in HTML codes, make sure not to omit anything. If you leave out even one little letter or symbol, or put in a space where it doesn't belong, the code won't work.
  • A great trick is to use the "Show Source" or "Source" commands in many browsers (try looking in the View or File menus). These allow you to see the HTML used on any Web page. Choose this command and see how your favorite pages were done!
