How to Do Dreadlocks at the Hairline

How to Do Dreadlocks at the Hairline thumbnail
Creating dreadlocks along the hairline is simple.

Creating dreadlocks along the hairline is done in the same manner as creating dreads elsewhere in the hair. The key is starting with hair that is at least three inches long. Anything other than that will not work. Maintain your new dreadlocks by continuing to comb back any loose hairs. Apply more wax as needed. Once your locks begin to grow and mature, applying wax more frequently will be necessary. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take a small portion of hair at the hairline and hold it away from the head. You can hold the hair up or out; comfort is the only deciding factor.

    • 2

Back-comb the hair, starting at the tip and working toward the root. Continue to back-comb the hair until there is a tight knot or tangle at the hairline.

    • 3

Place some dread wax on your thumb, index and middle finger, rubbing them together to warm the dread wax.

    • 4

Apply the dread wax to the dread, starting at the hairline and working your way toward the tip. Twist the dread counter-clockwise in your fingers as you apply the wax.

    • 5

Place the twisted lock between your flattened palms. Move your hands in opposite directions, rolling the lock back and forth quickly. This is known as the palm roll.

    • 6

Repeat the process along the hairline until you have finished creating your dreadlocks.
