Apple’s iWeb is an entry-level Web page creation program and is part of the iLife Suite of programs. When you click “Save,” the program backs up your website to a file called “Domain,” which is only readable by iWeb. If you want to save your website so you can preview it in a browser or upload it to a Web host, you should publish it to a folder on your hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Open iWeb. Click a template style and then click a page style from the thumbnails in the main window. Click "Choose."

    • 2

Click the site name in the Site Organizer panel on the left. Click "Local Folder" in the "Publish To" drop-down menu.

    • 3

Type a name for your website in the "Site Name" text box. Click "Choose" in the "Folder Location" panel. Navigate to the location where you want to save your site. Click "Choose" in the file list box.

    • 4

Click the "Publish Site" button at the bottom of the screen or click "File" and then "Publish Entire Site." Click "OK" when your website is saved.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can click "Visit Site Now" after saving to see your site in your default browser.

  • RSS feeds, password protection, the hit counter and the blog, podcast and photo comments are not available when you publish to a folder.

  • If you want to transfer your saved website to another Mac that runs iWeb, copy the “Domain” file from "/Library/Application Support/iWeb" to a CD or portable hard drive and move the file to the new computer. Double-click the “Domain” file to open the website on the new computer.
