How to Troubleshoot the Augen eReader

The Augen eReader is an inexpensive e-book reader similar to the more popular Amazon Kindle and Barnes and Noble Nook. This device allows users to read e-books on an ink-like display, and navigate through the book using buttons. Unfortunately, you may experience problems with your Augen eReader -- failure to turn on, missing books, frozen screen and more -- that make it difficult or impossible to use the device. Before sending the eReader in for service, perform a series of troubleshooting techniques to attempt to correct the problem yourself.

Determine if the symptoms your Augen is experiencing indicate a problem, or are the result of normal use. For example, has the device suddenly stopped charging or had a drastic reduction in battery life, or has the decline been gradual? The first issue indicates a problem, while the second issue indicates normal wear and tear over the device's lifespan.

    • 2

Purchase a new charging cable if your device is no longer charging. If the Augen still fails to charge after purchasing a new cable, replace the battery in the device with a new battery. Use a plastic prying tool to take the back off the Augen, remove the current battery and replace it with a new one. Place the back onto the device, then plug it in and allow it to charge.

    • 3

Press the "Reset" button with a pin or other small object if the screen is frozen. The device will be forced to reset. If it still fails to reset, either allow the battery to run out over the course of a few days, or take the back off the device, remove the battery and then reinsert it to reboot the device.

Try a new USB cable if the Augen eReader won't connect to your computer, or connects incorrectly. Inspect the Augen's USB port for an obstruction, such as dust, and clean it out if necessary using canned air. If the USB port appears cracked, burnt or bent, you should consider replacing the reader, which may be cheaper than buying a replacement board and having the device serviced.
