How to Embed a Customer's Name in a PDF

Embed a customer's name in a PDF by using the text entry command of a Web service or other software that can edit and export to PDFs. Not all services that can export to the PDF format can edit PDFs directly, so you may need to convert the PDF to an editable format first. If the customer has a company whose logo you want to insert in a PDF, use your conversion tool's command for importing graphics to place the logo next to or in place of the customer's name.

Instructions

  1. PDFescape

    • 1

Open the PDFescape home page in your Web browser, then click the "Start now" link at page top.

    • 2

Click the "Upload PDF" link, then navigate to and double click the PDF on your hard drive. Your browser will upload the file to PDFescape's servers.

    • 3

Click the "Text" button at screen left, and then click the place on the PDF page where you want the customer name to appear.

    • 4

Type the name, then click the "Click here to disable" link below the page's toolbar.

    • 5

Click the green icon at screen left with two "v" characters. This opens a dialog box for saving the edited PDF. Type a name in the "Name" text box, then click "Save" to begin the download.

    Photoshop Elements

    • 6

Click the "File" menu's "Open" command, then navigate to and double click the PDF file in which you want to insert the customer name. Elements will load each page as a separate document.

    • 7

Click the "T" icon from the "Tools" panel to run the "Text" tool, and then click the mouse where you want to insert the customer name. Type the name, and then repeat this step for the remaining documents in which you want the customer name to appear.

    • 8

Click the "Edit" menu's "Add page" command to add a new page to the current document. Repeat this for each remaining document open in Elements to create enough pages for the output PDF file.

    • 9

Click the icon in the "Project" panel that's immediately to the right of the currently highlighted icon. This selects the second page of the PDF for editing. Press "Control" and "A" simultaneously to select the current document's content, and then click on the leftmost icon in the "Project" to re-select the first PDF page. Press "Control" and "V" simultaneously to paste the second PDF page. Paste the remaining documents onto the blank pages you added, using this step's instructions.

    • 10

Click the "File" menu's "Save as" command, and then click the "PDF" type in the "Type" drop-down list. Type a name for the file in the "Name" text box, then click "Save" to save the PDF file.

    Convert to Word

    • 11

Open your Web browser, and then navigate to a Web service that converts PDF to Word files. Such services include PDFOnline, PDF converter, and Zamzar.

    • 12

Follow the site's instructions to convert the PDF file to a Word file, and download that file to your PC.

    • 13

Double-click the downloaded file to open it in Word, and then navigate to the first page in which you want to insert the customer name. Type the name on this page, and on the remaining pages in which the name must appear.

    • 14

Click the "File" menu's "Save as" command, and then click the "PDF" option from the "Type" drop-down list.

    • 15

Type a name for the file in the "Save as" command, then click "Save" to save the PDF file.
