How to Join Brush Strokes in Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is a graphics software that allows users to use their creativity to create digital artwork and designs. One of the most commonly used tools in illustrator is the "Brush" tool. This tool works like an artist’s brush to create strokes of color on the page. If you’re working on a project using Adobe Illustrator and want to join separate brush strokes together, use the "Brush" tool you used to create the strokes in the first place.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your document in Adobe Illustrator and select the "Brush" tool from the toolbar. The "Brush" tool is an icon that looks like a small paintbrush with an "X" beside it. Or, you can just press the letter “B” on your keyboard to select this tool.

    • 2

Double-click the "Paint Brush" icon to open the “Paintbrush Tool Preferences” window. This is where you will change the tolerance and smoothness of the brush. Look at the size of the existing strokes and choose a brush that matches them as closely as possible. You might have to adjust the brush size a few times until you get it right.

    • 3

Select the brush shape you want from the “Brush Panel.” Double-click the brush to open the “Brush Options” dialog box. Change the diameter so it matches the existing size of the brush strokes you want to join.

    • 4

Click the "Eyedropper" tool and click it on the existing brush strokes so your joining stroke is the same color. Press the "B" button to reselect your brush tool after you have made this change.

    • 5

Use the "Brush" tool to join the two existing strokes. Simply click and hold down your mouse (or tablet pen) and drag it along the screen to join the strokes.
