How to Counteract NoFollow Attributes

How to Counteract NoFollow Attributes thumbnail
Counteracting nofollow controls can be time-consuming.

A "nofollow" reference on a webpage overrides the ability of commenters and spammers to provide links to raise the ranking of other webpages. When a link is entered on a site to another Web page, it can raise the overall ranking of that page. When the nofollow language is embedded on a site's comments or forums, it means that any traffic coming through the link is not counted in ranking the page, nor are the keywords in the link captured for searches. It can be difficult to overcome these blocks if you are a legitimate site, as opposed to a spammer.

Instructions

    • 1

The company that hosts your site may have plugins you can use to circumvent nofollow links. Wordpress offers plugins allowing you to remove nofollow links and enhance traffic to your site.

    • 2

Limit your outbound links. If your page has an excessive number of links in relation to actual content, your site will get blacklisted by search engines, causing your page rank to decrease significantly.

    • 3

Implement the "nofollow" tag yourself on select, lower-quality pages. By placing the nofollow link on certain pages of your sites, you could potentially drive more traffic to some of your other pages -- and, in the end, funnel your overall traffic for a potential increase.
