Perfume can be the finishing touch to your grooming routine. The scent of perfume can invoke memories and affect your mood, and the average shelf life is two years. However, if you don't store your perfume properly, its life may be shorter; the scent of your perfume can turn sour and its color can change over time. 1
Store your perfume away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle in its box, in a dark, cool place such as a drawer or closet.
-
2
Keep your perfume at room temperature, avoiding extreme heat or cold. Don't keep your perfume in the bathroom, because the heat from the shower warms the room and can trigger your perfume to oxidize and change color.

3
Purchase perfumes that come in a blue or opaque bottle. These tend to last longer than perfumes stored in transparent bottles -- which easily let light through.
-
4
Seal your perfume bottle after each use. The alcohol in perfumes, especially in splash-on fragrances, evaporates when exposed to the air. Pour perfumes that you splash on your skin into an atomizer. Replacing the bottle with a spray bottle exposes less of the fragrance to the air.

5
Buy small bottles of perfume instead of large ones. A large perfume bottle may take a long time to use up, giving it more time to turn. Smaller bottles may not last as long, but at least the fragrance won't go bad.

Tips & Warnings
Extend the life of perfume on your skin by applying it after moisturizing. Use a fragrance-free body lotion before applying perfume to your pulse points. Or use the perfume's matching body lotion or cream to layer the fragrance.
