How to Do a Head Cleaning on a Canon MP240

A head cleaning on a Canon PIXMA MP240 may help resolve printout issues resulting from PG-210 Black FINE and CL-211 Color FINE inks clogging the nozzles in your printer. The intermittent ink dispersal from clogs can ruin printouts by creating white lines and voids in images and text. Canon has designed the MP240 for quick automatic basic or deep print-head cleaning. To start either process, you simply need to use the controls on the printer’s control panel.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your Canon PIXMA MP240 printer for cleaning. Turn on the printer. Flip down the paper-out tray, pull out the tray extension and load a sheet of letter-size or A4 paper in the rear tray.

    • 2

Push the “Maintenance” button near the bottom of the control panel, above the “Black” button, until you see “H” on the display.

    • 3

Press the “Black” or “Color” button to begin start the automatic head-cleaning process. Typically, this process takes about one to two minutes.

    • 4

Confirm that you successfully cleaned the print head. Push “Maintenance” until you see “A” on the display. Press “Black” or “Color” to print out a Nozzle Check Pattern page. Check the page for white streaks or voids in the pattern.

    • 5

Deep-clean the print head if necessary. Push “Maintenance” until you see “Y” on the display. Press “Black” or “Color” to start the deep cleaning. Typically, this process takes two minutes.

    • 6

Repeat Step 5 to print out a Nozzle Check Pattern page see if the cleaning worked. If it didn’t, turn on automatic deep clean again.
