How to Make an Advent Calender With Only Paper
An advent calendar adds to the excitement of the holiday season. Children love to be included in the holiday spirit, from the food to the decorations. A fun project to do with the youngsters is a paper chain advent calendar. The children decorate individual pieces and put them together in a chain. Each morning a child is appointed to tear off the next chain link on the calendar and tell the others what treat they are receiving. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Cut white paper into strips 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. You will be using 24 strips, but make 30 to have extras in case of mistakes when marking and decorating them.
-
2
Decorate one side of each strip. This will be the side that shows. Use stickers, colored markers and glitter to create unique, individual strips.
-
-
3
Place number stickers on the outside of the strips. Lay each strip flat on a table with the decorated side facing up. Place one numbered sticker on the center of each decorated side.
-
4
Flip all strips over and lay the white side up on a table. On each strip, write what treat will be enjoyed that day. For example, the strip with the number 5 on it might have written on the flip side, "All children get to stay up 30 extra minutes tonight." Another might read, "Family movie night with popcorn." Continue with each strip until they all have named treats or privileges written on them.
-
5
Take the strip with the number 24 on it and form it into a circle with the decorated part facing out and the written treat on the inside. The shape should resemble a wrist bracelet. Glue the end lengths together so it maintains its circular shape.
-
6
Take strip 23 and attach it to 24. Do this by sliding one end of 23 through the middle of 24 and looping 23 around to form a bracelet shape with 24 hanging from it. Glue the lengthwise edges together, making sure the decorated side faces the outside of the chain, so the written treat cannot be seen easily.
-
7
Repeat Step 6 over again using one strip at a time until all descending numbers are used and all strips are attached in a paper chain advent calendar.
-
8
Hang the calendar in a safe place, away from flames and pets.
