How to Dye Certain Parts of a Jacket
When you have a jacket that appears muted, plain and boring, you may think of buying a new jacket that is more vibrant. However, if you are on a budget, you may not be able to afford a new jacket. One solution is to dye the jacket using fabric dye that you can buy inexpensively from a craft supply store. You can even dye only certain parts of the jacket to create a more artistic-looking jacket.

1
Fill a stock pot with 2 gallons of water, and heat the water over medium-high heat until the water begins to boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low to simmer the water.
-
2
Pour 12 ounces of liquid fabric dye into the simmering water, then stir the solution with a spoon for two minutes.

3
Insert the area of the jacket that you want to dye into the water, holding onto the undyed portion with your hands. For example, when dying one of the jacket arms, hold the jacket in your hands with the arm of the jacket hanging straight down. Lower the arm into the dye bath, allow the arm to remain in the simmering dye bath for 10 minutes.
-
4
Lift the dyed section of the jacket directly out of the dye bath, making sure that you do not touch the dyed fabric to any other part of the jacket.
-
5
Rinse out the dyed section under cold water until the water runs clear. Allow the jacket to air dry.
