Beating British Troops during the American Revolution sealed the deal for the United States to have independence from Britain. Both sides of this battle wore easily recognizable uniforms to avoid confusion during battle. Many of the items that you need to create authentic-looking American Revolution costumes can be found at thrift stores or used clothing stores. Dress the part and convince your friends that you are ready to battle along side of your chosen army.

Things You'll Need

  • White dress shirt
  • White trousers
  • Black knee-length boots or buckled shoes
  • Red coat with tails or brown vest
  • Tricorn Hat
  • Blue handkerchief
  • Musket
  • Powdered wig

Instructions

      Gather the items needed to fight along side of your fellow British soldiers. Create the base of your uniform by wearing a white dress shirt, red coat with tails, white pants and long shiny black boots that rise to the knee.

      Complete the look of the British soldier known as a "Red Coat" by wearing a colonial-style powdered white wig from the 18th century and carrying a musket if possible.

      Prepare to stand up and fight for the United States by wearing the simple uniform that American militiamen battled in. Create the base of your uniform by wearing a tricorn hat, buckled shoes, white dress shirt and brown vest along with a pair of white trousers.

      Complete the look by wearing a blue handkerchief around your neck and carrying a musket similar to what the British soldiers carried.

Tips & Warnings

  • Costume shops often sell plastic muskets or you may be able to purchase a replica online for a reasonable price.
