How to Book Singers for Parties

How to Book Singers for Parties thumbnail
Booking the wrong singers for your party may leave you more than a little embarassed.

A memorable party is all about the entertainment. While booking singers for your party is a natural choice to top off your event, failing to book the right kind may leave you with laughably poor music. To book great singers, you do not need to know people or be musically inclined; you simply need to know how to get the word out and be thorough. If you do these two things well, you can expect lively, punctual and cost effective singers for all of your coming parties.

Instructions

    • 1

Advertise that you are looking for singers. Post ads on Internet job boards and place flyers around your local college campus. Visit local bars and clubs to get suggestions and put the word out, as singers and bands frequently play these venues.

    • 2

Schedule an audition. Make sure you inform interested singers of the pay rate, style of music and audition details, such as time and location. It is also important to ask those auditioning to bring along any references or demos they may have.

    • 3

Hold an audition with a few friends or co-workers along to help. Ask the singers to belt out a few lines of their choosing. If you are interested in potentially booking them, ask for a snippet of a well-known song to ensure that your singers have real talent and are not good at one song and one song only.

    • 4

Check references before hiring anyone. Even if you are sure you know who you want to hire, failing to check references may leave you with a group of tardy singers who put the crowd to sleep.

    • 5

Decide on the singers you would like to book and give them a call. Lay out the terms, such as time of arrival and pay, and ensure that your chosen group is willing to sing at your party.

    • 6

Write and sign a contract. The contract can be a simple list of your expectations stating that the singers will be paid the full amount if all listed expectations are met. While writing the contract, take into consideration expected time of arrival, acceptable number of breaks, overtime pay, meal allowances, types of songs to be performed and anything else you consider important.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make it clear in your advertisements what day your party is and the type of music you want to avoid wasting time on people who are already booked or uncomfortable singing your chosen style.

  • Tip each singer for a job well done. This will ensure that your phone calls are returned for future parties.
