How to Make a Neck Pillow With Added Scented Powder

Neck pillows are placed behind the neck to offer support and comfort, often during long plane or car rides. The pillows are filled with a soft but malleable material that can contour to the shape of the neck. Create your own neck pillow using a long sock and uncooked rice. Add in some scented powder for an aromatherapy touch to the pillow. Use a powder that has a scent you wouldn't mind near your face for long periods of time.

Instructions

    • 1

Drop the length of a clean knee-high sock through the opening in a wide-mouthed vase. Stretch the top out so that it covers the top rim of the vase. Extend the stretched sock down the outside of the vase until the sock stays in place on its own.

    • 2

Pour rice into the opened sock until the sock is one-quarter full. Sprinkle in some scented powder. Use caution when adding powder, as you don't want the scent to be overpowering when the pillow is behind your neck and near your face. Continue with rice until the sock is half full. Add more powder. Continue until the sock is full to the mouth of the vase.

    • 3

Thread a needle. Pull the stretched-out portion of the sock off the vase and hold it tightly. Pin the two sides together and ensure the edges are lined up. Sew the edges together using a straight stitch. Perform a straight stitch by simply passing the needle back and forth through the fabrics until you reach the other end. Knot the thread at the end and cut off excess.

    • 4

Lift the sock out of the vase and use as desired.
