Instructions

    • 1

Choose a picture of the soccer ball you want to knit. Select the yarn and determine the size of needles. Use the size suggested on the wrapper of the yarn.

    • 2

Knit a sample piece to determine your ratio - how long or wide your knit stitch should be. Knit a sample piece of 14 stitches. Knit hexagons, or pentagons, of at least 16 rows. Measure 10 rows with a tape measure. Determine how many stitches are in two inches. If you have eight stitches in two inches, then your ratio would be 8:10, meaning eight stitches will make 10 rows.

    • 3

Create your knitting chart. Transfer your sample design to a regular square knitting graph paper. Add an extra row for every four rows to add up to eight stitches and 10 rows. Draw a square around the number of hexagons, or pentagons, you will need to knit so as to create soccer ball pillow pictures.

    • 4

Wrap 20 to 30 yards of each of the black and white yarns to each of its bobbin (a reel that holds yarn for knitting).

    • 5

Make a knit stitch. Measure off a length of yarn allowing 1 inch for each stitch you will make. With the white yarn held at the back, insert the right-hand needle from left to right. Let it pass through the front of your first stitch on the left hand needle.

    • 6

Wind the white yarn over your right-hand needle and pull a loop through it. Slip off the initial stitch off the left-hand needle. Continue until you reach a point where you have to change to black color as indicated by your pattern chart.

    • 7

Wrap the yarn on top of and around the right-hand needle to create a loop. Insert the right-hand needle under the left-hand needle and pull the loop through the stitch. Continue purling until you reach a point where you have to change color (to white).

    • 8

Attach the white yarn by folding it over the needle. Continue switching on the yarns where necessary until you have created hexagon, or pentagon, patterns for your soccer ball pillow pictures.

    • 9

Turn your fabric to the wrong side and weave in all loose ends with a crochet hook. Trim off excess yarn. Press your fabric with a steam iron. Cut the fabric according to pillow measurements and saw the edges together with a needle and thread. Leave an opening for stuffing in polyester fiberfill into the pillow. Stuff your pillow.
