How to Make a Box With a Scale Circuit
Here's an idea: Use parts from obsolete electronics to make a box with scale circuits. Scale circuits are found in the motherboard of computers and internal parts of printers and compact disc players. Scale circuits are primarily made of plastic and silicone. If you have a few old electronics around the house, remove the scale circuits to make a futuristic box. Free up precious storage space in your home and reuse the electronics for parts.
Things You'll Need
- Obsolete electronic items
- Screwdriver
- Utility knife
- Metal file
- Soft cloth
- Hot glue gun

1
Unplug and power off the electronic item. Remove the cover of the obsolete electronic item. Loosen the screws on the computer frame using a screwdriver. Remove the battery cover or search the surface on smaller electronics for frame screws. Loosen the screws using a screwdriver to expose the interior parts.
-
2
Remove the scale circuits from the inside of the electronic item. You may have to loosen a few screws or bolts before removing the item.

3
Calculate the size of the box. You need five equal square pieces to make the box. If you have a 10-by-10-inch scale circuit, cut five 2-by-2-inch square pieces from the scale circuit using a utility knife. You can mix and match squares from different scale circuits if one scale circuit is not large enough.
-
4
Smooth the edges of the cut square pieces, using a metal file. Cut plastic and silicone are sharp and must be filed to remove sharp pieces.
-
5
Clean the dirt, dust and debris from the surfaces of the cut pieces using a soft cloth. The residue prevents the adhesive from sticking to the scale circuits.
-
6
Place one square piece horizontally on a level surface. Glue around the edges of the top surface of the square piece, using a hot glue gun. Stand four square pieces vertically around the four edges of the horizontal square piece. The four vertical square pieces make the wall of the box.

7
Apply glue into the sides and corners of the four walls, using a hot glue gun. Let the glue dry for 20 seconds.

Tips & Warnings
Warm the hot glue gun for 3 minutes.
Wear protective gloves, goggles and mask when cutting the scale circuit or handling a hot glue gun.
The nozzle of the hot glue gun is extremely hot and burns skin on contact.
