How to Get Froyo on My US Cellular HTC Desire
U.S. Cellular's HTC Desire is powered by the Android 2.1 operating system. You can upgrade the Desire's OS to the Android 2.2 "Froyo" version. The upgrade process requires you to download and install an update file through HTC Sync.

Download and install HTC Sync on your computer from HTC’s website.

Press the “Menu” button on your Desire and tap “Settings.” Touch “About Phone” and tap “Software Information.” Check that the software version is lower than 2.11.573.5.

Plug your Desire’s USB cable into the device. Plug the other end of the cable into the computer. Tap “Notifications” at the top of the screen. Touch “Connect to PC.” Tap “Disk Drive” to use the Desire as a disk drive.

Open a browser window on your computer and go to the Desire’s official support page on the HTC website. Select “Downloads.” Select the 2.11.573.5 update.

Click “Run” when the download prompt appears.

Click “Next” to install the HTC update software. The HTC ROM Utility application launches.

Check the box next to “I Understand.” Click “Next.” Check the “I Have Completed the Steps Indicated Above” box. Click “Next."

Click “Update,” then click “Next.” Click “Next” a second time, then click “Finish” to complete the upgrade process.

Tips & Warnings
Installing Froyo will result in the loss of applications, email, contacts, calendar, personalization and browser bookmarks. Back up your data before initiating the upgrade process.
