How to Get Saved Pictures Off of the iPod Touch in Recovery Mode
The iPod Touch stores videos, music and photos, as well as contacts, documents and any apps you have downloaded and placed on the device. Occasionally, the iPod can experience a glitch and need to be restored. The iPod can go into recovery mode on its own when connected to iTunes, or you can place it in recovery mode manually if you have a problem and need to restore the iPod from your backup. Recovery mode locks your device from use. When connected to iTunes you will be prompted to restore your device. Restore wipes the iPod and then reloads it from the backup on your computer.

1
Open the start menu on your computer. In the search bar, type "iPod Photo Cache." The photos you place on your iPod or take on your iPod are stored in this folder when you sync your iPod. If you named a different folder for photo storage, open that folder, as well.

2
Check the photos in the folder. If you have synced your iPod since your last photos were added, they should be stored on your computer. Follow the restore instructions on the iTunes screen to restore your iPod and remove it from recovery mode. All of your photos will be replaced on your iPod when it has been synced after you leave recovery mode.

Download software such as RecBoot, iDemocracy or iREB to retrieve information from your iPod while it is in recovery mode without restoring the device if you check your computer and don't find copies of your photos. Follow the instructions for the software to retrieve your photos and/or exit recovery mode. Once the photos have been retrieved, restore your device in iTunes.
